Inflated
INFLATED Is A Game Made For The GMTK 2024 Game Jam.
You play as a character that can inflate its head and float around like a balloon with the aim of clearing every stage as fast as possible.
CONTROLS
Press SPACE to Inflate the character's head, interact with the menu and skip the grading screen.
Release SPACE and then pressing SPACE while near the blue entities to parry.
Use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW KEY while airborne to move left and right.
Press A or D and SPACE simultaneously while airborne to dash.
Press R to restart (The timer needs to have begun and you need not to have cleared the stage yet).
MECHANICS
Releasing SPACE during the dash and then pressing SPACE shortly after grants you a vertical speed boost equal to half of the speed you originally had, and the corresponding head size.
Touching the blue entities deducts 5 seconds from the timer. However, parrying the blue entities restores said 5 seconds and adds 2 more.
Parrying the blue entities grants you additional vertical speed.
The pink entity will block you path unless the character's head is big enough to destroy them.
If the timer reaches 0 the stage will automatically be restarted.
The grade at the end of each stage depends on the time you spend falling, on the ground after the timer has begun and the time you spent on the stage according to the time given to you at the start.
STAGE 3 NOTE
I have come to realize that the 3rd stage of the game requires some tricky inputs, so here's how yoy beat it.
1. Inflate and move until you have passed the first platform as seen bellow.
2. Press D+SPACE to dash to the left or A+SPACE to dash to the right depending on where the pink entities are.
3. No input.
4. Press SPACE to break through.

Very fun concept. I can see it either going toward precise platforming or speed platforming direction with the dashing. I think having an option for a grace/buffer for dashing rather than exclusively having [space+a/d] might help people that struggle with it at first (me) out of reluctance of maintaining vertical speed. But it felt really good once I got the hang of having to hold down space and the dash inputs.
Thanks for playing! I appreciate the feedback and will look into adding a buffer period of a few frames after SPACE has been released to make dashing smoother!
does dashing with arrow keys work?
Dashing only works with A + Space or D + Space
